House Painting Tasks That Can Be Done Yourself

While it does take a lot of hard work, painting your house is something most people can do. Based on the length of time you have lived in your house, and how long it has been since it was painted, you will understand how difficult the job will be. For those who create the time to do it, you can save loads of money. If you think that there isn’t the time, then you should think about hiring someone.

Paint doesn’t last permanently, and eventually it starts to peel and look horrible. When this happens about all you can do is to get a paint scraper and scrape as much of the paint off as you can. If your home might be very old, it is possible that you may have a number of coats of paint underneath. It is usually a lot more tedious if the layer of paint below was oil-based. After you are done scraping the paint off of the walls, you’ll either need to putty holes in the wall if it’s wood or spackle if it is drywall then sand it down. After you have completed this task, clean off the dust and let it dry. It is best to wait approximately 24 hours to totally dry.

There could be a challenge with dampness build-up if you live in an older home. Should there be extreme condensation, a leak, or moisture content building-up, the result will also be cracking paint. You will come across this often in the bathroom, where mold and mildew will also grow. Even if this is typically a bathroom issue, it can happen in other parts of the house. At times the house will have a leak, or hedges that are too close. When your paint is cracking because of moisture build-up, you will need a different solution. If it’s inside the home, you will need to create a solution that is one part bleach and three parts water to remove the paint and kill the mildew. If it is on the exterior of the house, you merely wash it with a pressure washer and the solution that comes with it.

When the paint on your house is starting to fade, that is also a good time to repaint. This typically happens outside when you have direct sunlight almost daily. To prevent this problem, steer clear of bright colors, or bold ones, like red. If you want some kind of expression color, check out golden or ruddy tone.

To keep your residence looking nice, you must never let it get into that bad of shape. You need to take some time to repaint every few years and fix any leaks as soon as they happen.
